You wouldn’t be looking solely for fine dining in Adelaide, however. You’ll want to do things around the city. The Adelaide Botanic Garden can be highly recommended.

If you’re looking for a breath of fresh air amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, then it should be near the top of your list of things to do.

Why You Should Experience The Adelaide Botanic Garden

Open to the public since 1857, the Adelaide Botanic Garden has long offered a breath of fresh air in the city. Spread across 125 acres, there’s more than enough packed in here to keep you busy for the day.

If you’re a nature lover, then it’s quite easy to get lost in the Garden. Even if you’re not taking your time, it could easily take you two or three hours to get around. It’s more than worth taking a map with you while you’re there.

There are more than a few things to see at the Adelaide Botanic Garden, both inside and outside. When you’re inside the garden, you can see the:

  • The Palm House: Imported from Germany in 1875, the Palm House is a restored Victorian glasshouse featuring countless plants from Madagascar. It’s also the only one of its type still left in existence.
  • Bicentennial Conservatory: Designed to commemorate Australia’s bicentenary in 1988, the Bicentennial Conservatory contains rainforest plants from multiple countries including Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. Don’t forget about the many birds and insects found around the place.
  • Amazon Waterlily Pavilion: Featuring a beautiful collection of waterlilies, this feature is a must-see while you’re at the Adelaide Botanic Garden.
  • Santos Museum of Economy Botany: Originally opened in 1881, the Santos Museum of Economy Botany is the last purpose-built colonial museum left worldwide. When you’re here, it’s worth taking in the ornate detailing of the building as much as you appreciate the flowers and plants.

Coupled with this are the vast range of things you can see on the Adelaide Botanic Garden’s exterior. Some of the more attractive and popular of these are plants from the five main Mediterranean climates around the world.

These are:

  • South Africa;
  • California;
  • The Mediterranean Basin;
  • South Africa, and;
  • South-Western Australia.

Between the Adelaide Botanic Garden’s interior and exterior, there’s more than enough for you to see. It’s easy to see why many tourists spend most of the day there.
